Position: Driver Class B Trainee – Healthcare (CDL Sponsorship)

Clean Harbors in San Jose, CA is seeking a Driver Class B Trainee – Healthcare to join our team and grow into a Class B Box Truck Driver role. In this entry-level position, you will be paid to train on the job, learning how to safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste from customer sites (including healthcare facilities) to Clean Harbors facilities and approved disposal locations, while following all DOT and HAZMAT regulations.

Through our Company Paid CDL Program, we will sponsor you to obtain your Class B CDL (and Hazmat endorsement), so you can advance into a full Class B driver position with Clean Harbors. You will work alongside experienced drivers, learning how to operate box trucks and other equipment, complete required paperwork, and deliver excellent service to our customers.

  • Work alongside experienced drivers to learn how to transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste (box truck, tank, van, and/or roll-off dump trailer) from customer locations to Clean Harbors facilities and/or outside disposal facilities, in accordance with DOT and HAZMAT regulations.
  • Learn to communicate regularly with Coordinators regarding daily schedules, site times, and any delays or demurrage.
  • Learn and assist with proper loading and unloading of drums and other containers, including segregation of compatible materials, weight distribution, and safe use of material handling equipment (e.g., drum dollies, pallet jacks).
  • Learn proper placarding of vehicles to meet Clean Harbors and DOT requirements.
  • Learn how to complete and maintain accurate daily logs, worksheets, timecards, expense reports, dispatch and trip reports, and vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
  • Assist with pre- and post-trip inspections and learn to identify and report any mechanical issues to ensure equipment is safe, mechanically sound, and in good working order.
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles and equipment and follow all housekeeping expectations at customer and Clean Harbors locations.
  • Provide professional, courteous service at customer sites, representing Clean Harbors in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Follow all Clean Harbors and customer environmental, health, safety, and operating procedures at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including general labor tasks related to waste handling and cleanup as business needs require.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid non-CDL driver’s license and the ability to meet Clean Harbors’ motor vehicle record (MVR) standards:
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • No DUI/DWI in the past 3 years
  • No preventable accidents in the past year
  • No more than 2 preventable accidents in the last 3 years
  • No serious moving violations (e.g., reckless driving, driving to endanger, open container, etc.) in the past 3 years
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Class B CDL, with Hazmat endorsement per position requirements, through Clean Harbors’ sponsored CDL training program.
  • 0–3 years of relevant work experience (driving, labor, warehouse, or industrial environment).
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision, make sound real-time decisions in the field, and complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
