ResponsibilitiesTeam Introduction:
Our team is building industry leading, highly efficient and scalable video codec hardware solutions (FPGA and ASIC) from the ground up to better serve our billions of users. We are looking for strong software and firmware engineers to design algorithms, C-model and firmware for advanced video encoding and processing implemented in dedicated hardware accelerators. The successful candidate will be part of a fast growing team that includes algorithm, architecture, software, firmware, and hardware design and verification experts with a dedication to technical excellence and a passion to build large‑scale and high‑performing video platforms and services.
- Design and development of control software/firmware for multimedia processors.
- Design and development of Linux platform drivers and application-level software for multimedia processors.
- Implement efficient video processing pipelines for encoding, decoding, and transcoding.
- System performance analysis, design, and optimization.
- Hardware function verification of multimedia processors, as well as design and development of software test cases and tools.
- Cooperate to support several Byte Dance businesses, including LIVE/VOD/RTC/Picture processing and etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS degree or above in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent fields.
- Excellent software design, problem solving and debugging skills.
- Solid programming skills in C/C++.
- At least 3 years of direct related experience in software development.
- Knowledge of video compression, including codec standards such as H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC.
- Familiar with Linux operating systems, with expertise in both application-level software and kernel driver development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
- Familiarity with open-source multimedia frameworks such as FFmpeg and GStreamer is preferred.
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art video codecs, such as H.266/VVC, AV1/AV2 is a big plus.
- Knowledge of image/video and signal processing, both algorithm design and implementation (for example, Encoding rate Control, scene change detection, sharpen filter, ROI, adaptive GOP structure and etc).
- Experience working on NPU&DSP development is a big plus.
- Strong execution capability, good communication skills, and team spirit.
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $187,040 - $438,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
