With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

As a part of the Core Messaging team within Google Messages, you will be responsible for the application architecture, business logic, and the transport layer of the application, ensuring among other responsibilities that messages are sent and received fast and reliably.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. • Manage a team of software engineers, driving their technical development, career growth, and enhancing the collective engineering knowledge base across the team.
• Define the technical strategy and architecture for scalability and robustness to support a billion plus user base, primarily using Kotlin on the Android platform.
• Ensure reliability and performance (latency and quality) for core messaging functionality, including RCS, SMS, and MMS stacks, utilizing data-driven methods to address transport reliability issues.
• Provide technical leadership by contributing to design documents, projects, and leading code and design reviews to steer the team's direction and maintain high quality standards.
• Serve as a keycross-functional collaborator, partnering with multiple internal teams (e.g., Android platform) and external entities, including carriers and manufacturers, to integrate and advance core messaging technologies.
