Overview
Works within the vision, mission and philosophy of the agency. The Family Specialist II trains or oversees the development of a strength based relationship with youth and caregivers. Models how to implement positive behavior change through the creation of behavioral strategies that will support stabilization in the home and community. Does whatever it takes to meet the needs of the family in a strength based approach while also preserving the family unit.
Assists in transitioning kids to the lowest level of care. Provides staff with morale building, leadership development, role modeling, and overall support to the Family Specialist I to ensure that needs are met for families and each other. Continues to bring creativity and strength-based philosophy to the office and our families. Works independently in the family’s home and a variety of community and/or treatment settings.
This position works directly with children and adults.
- The initial compensation for this position ranges from $31.40 - $38.61 per hour.
- Salary is dependent on commensurate experience above the minimum qualifications for the role and internal equity considerations.
- The salary may also vary if you reside in a different location than the location posted.
- 8% License Differential for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, PsyD. and select Peer Certifications.

- Provides direct billable mental health services, documents in alignment with Medi Cal regulations and achieves set productivity expectations.
- Coaches and mentors others in the principles and concepts of functional behavior analysis and the development of individualized engagement processes.
- Teaches others how to utilize strengths of children, families, and others to assist in the implementation and achievement of goals and outcomes.
- Initiates and leads groups in developing resources within the community to serve children and families.

- Coaches others on how to engage caregivers in building youth specific parenting responses that support positive behavior change and overall family relationships.
- Documents interactions and practices and maintain administrative expectations in a timely manner and provides documentation coaching to others.
- Provides leadership in developing program responses to needs identified across a number of youth and families where natural community resources are not available or appropriate.
- Performs other responsibilities, as assigned, to support department/business needs.
Resilient Families program will deliver a series of culturally responsive parenting support groups designed to strengthen family functioning and reduce risk factors associated with child welfare and juvenile justice involvement. The program serves families facing complex challenges such as housing instability, substance use, and domestic violence, with a focus on communities disproportionately impacted by these stressors, including Latinx, Asian, and African-ancestry families.
Group-based services are tailored by child age range and cultural and linguistic needs to ensure relevance, accessibility, and meaningful engagement. Participants receive structured aftercare supports to reinforce learning, promote continued skill development, and identify emerging needs. Through community-based outreach and relationship-centered engagement, the program builds trust, promotes sustained participation, and fosters lasting peer connections, with the overarching goal of enhancing parenting capacity, family stability, and long-term well-being.
- BA degree plus 2 years experience working with children.
- AA degree plus 6 years experience working with children.
