Bay Spec, Inc., a San Jose, California based Instrumentation Powerhouse, a small but growing company, is seeking an experienced sales manager. Our customer base spans optical telecommunication, NIR spectroscopy, and advanced spectroscopic techniques such as fluorescence, Raman, LIBS, cavity ring‑down, handheld and OCT spectroscopic instruments. The successful candidate will deeply explore commercial applications of miniaturized spectral devices and communicate practical knowledge to varied audiences.
Responsibilities- Identify strategic business segments.
- Explore new business opportunities and pioneer new frontiers.
- Be an open‑minded, outgoing personality who is street smart and confident when meeting new people.
- Make sales calls, join sales trips, sometimes as director, sometimes as a car salesman.
- Support customers who are purchasing or about to make a purchase.
- Manage direct sales and lead/managing the manufacturer representative channels.
- Aid marketing in qualifying new markets.
- Solicit customers by phone, email, or face‑to‑face visits.
- Represent Bay Spec at trade‑shows and exhibitions.
Qualified candidates will possess a college‑level degree and a minimum of 5 years of industrial work experience with demonstrated sales and marketing expertise in analytical instrumentation, chemical engineering, semiconductors, medical devices, biomedical, biotech, defense & homeland security, pharmaceuticals, laser instrumentation, solar and alternative energy, and related research & development areas.
Position is for a full‑time Bay Spec employee located in the company’s headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Educational Requirements- BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Biology, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any related physical science or engineering field.
- Understanding of basic principles of photonics and spectroscopic instruments (e.g., gratings, spectrographs, lasers, analytical chemistry, spectroscopic instrumentation).
- Experience in direct sales and leadership of manufacturer representative channels, closing proposals and expanding the representative network, especially in Silicon Valley, California, the U.S., and North America.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in English.
- Charming telephone manners, patience with customers and colleagues, problem‑solving attitude, and a ‘pick‑up‑it‑and‑run’ approach to sales tasks.
- Familiarity with spectroscopic techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, fluorescence, LIBS, cavity ring‑down, UV, VIS, NIR, or other spectroscopic applications.
- Ability to thrive in a small company environment; street‑smart, strong team player.
