Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a self-motivated PhD student to join our Intelligence Robotics Research Division as a summer intern and help with development of computational human biomechanical models for safe physical interaction. This position is a multidisciple nary research position that requires working at the intersection of biomechanics, human physiology, safety standards, robotics, and simulation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct extensive review of literature in biomechnics, physiology, safety
  • Develop novel multi-modal computational pain models to be used for safe physical interaction with human
  • Document findings and contribute to internal research reports.
  • Contribute to the portfolio of patents and publish research results at top-tier conferences and journals in human-robot interaction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD student in biomedical engineering, robotics, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Coursework and research experience in human biomechanics, human motor control, human computational models
  • Understanding of probabilistic and inference models and machine learning methods
  • Proficient in Python or C++ and visualization tools
  • Experience working with human biomechanical software (e.g. Any Body, Open Sim)

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in developing computational models for improved ergonomics in human-robot interaction
  • Biomechanical data collection and model development using MoCap, IMUs, physiological sensors, etc
  • Multi-modal signal analysis and representation learning
