Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient

New Employee Retention Bonus

Schedule:

Full time - 40 hours/week Monday - Friday - No weekends / holidays / on-call required

The registered nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) performs professional nursing activities in the care of patients so they may achieve or regain, and then maintain, maximum physical, emotional or social functions. Role functions are governed by the Nurse Practice Act, the Administrative Code (in the state of employment), as well as the professional standards for nursing practice, and the corresponding policies and procedures of Rogers Memorial Hospital (Rogers).

The registered nurse seeks consultation with other members of the health team as the patient’s condition and treatment goals warrant. He/She, in conjunction with the Patient Accounts department, provides patient information to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Complete initial assessments and documents as required.
  • Collect, record, and analyze, within prescribed timeframe, pertinent data for admission, assessment according to Hospital policy, including patient strengths, limitations, cultural, spiritual, and ethnic factors, patient needs at discharge, medical/physical status, medication compliance history, and age-specific data.
  • Involve patient’s support systems in assessment and documentation: observe and document family interaction, obtain data from support systems.
  • Act as an advocate for patients: explain rights, obtain signatures, protect privacy, assist orientation, uphold unit safety policies.
  • Initiate and update treatment plan and documentation as required: participate in planning, evaluate others’ data, contribute to staffing conferences, develop and update patient/family-centered plans of care, write clear goals, review outcome changes.
  • On an ongoing basis, identify, interpret, and document information collected in nursing: review lab data, assess fall and suicide risk, intervene appropriately.
  • Implement patient care, including safe medication administration, accurate transcription, medication education, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • Identify potential patient care problems and exercise leadership to intervene to prevent adverse outcomes.
  • Identify health education needs of the patient/family and implement age-appropriate teaching interventions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of unit standards of care such as safety level, unit safety/hazardous items, and Kardex.
  • Carry out leadership functions in patient care, staff operations, and department organization.
  • Assume charge nurse role: coordinate unit activities, lead crisis situations, facilitate admissions, manage therapeutic milieu, plan care assignments, and supervise staff.
  • Participate in projects, tasks, and continuing education opportunities to improve professional skills and unit/department systems.
  • Promote department goals and the mission of the hospital: communicate goals, maintain policies, provide training, and uphold regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance regulations.
  • Participate in Hospital committees, performance improvement team meetings, and projects.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner: demonstrate organizational skills, effective communication, positive attitude, compliance with policies, and support staffing needs.

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing; license in good standing.
  • CPR certification within thirty (30) days of hire; bi-annual re-certification required.
  • Formal training in management of aggressive patients within sixty (60) days of hire; annual re-certification required.
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred.
  • Qualified Medical Professional (QMP) designation may be required; competency evaluated annually.
  • Child/Adolescent Day Treatment program employees licensed under HFS §40 must have training or one year of experience with these children.
