Overview

Clinical Nurse III - Progressive Care:
Under general supervision, applies the theoretical concepts of the nursing profession while providing direct patient care within established nursing policies and procedures in the assigned clinical setting; initiates and performs established nursing interventions using current clinical knowledge.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Clinical Nurse III may assume charge nurse responsibilities and performs under general supervision with the ability to identify and implement nursing interventions that have less predictable outcomes and evaluate results for a given patient population. It differs from the Clinical Nurse II, Nurse Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, and Public Health Nurse classifications in scope of responsibility and setting.

St. Louise Regional Hospital - Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Float Pool, Clinical Nurse Resources. The eligible list will be used for future openings within this competency area.

The Clinical Nurse III employment standard requires an active California Registered Nurse License without restrictions and three (3) years of full-time RN experience, including at least one (1) year in the last three (3) years in an accredited acute care hospital setting in the specialty area. Qualifying experience may include Progressive Care, Stepdown, Intermediate Intensive Care, Intermediate Care, Transitional Care, or Telemetry/Observation.

Qualifications and Experience

Education and Experience

Active California Registered Nurse License without restrictions;

Three (3) years of full-time RN experience in an accredited hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting, with at least one (1) year in the last three (3) years in the specialty area; and

One (1) year of full-time RN experience in the nursing specialty area (patient population or health condition focus); BSN and/or specialty certification is preferred.

Special Requirements

Certifications

  • Basic Life Saving Certification (BLS) must be possessed and maintained during employment.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) must be possessed and maintained for clinical specialty areas.
  • Other identified specialty area certifications may be required for specific patient populations at appointment.

Other requirements

  • Ability to travel to alternate locations as part of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver's license and county driver authorization may be required.
  • Disaster Service Worker (DSW) designation is required for all County of Santa Clara employees; completion of related training and readiness to return to work during emergencies.
