We are seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to join our Labor & Delivery unit in San Jose, CA. This is a night-shift role offering the opportunity to lead a high-acuity obstetrics team. The ANM plays a critical role in supporting clinical operations, supervising nursing staff, maintaining compliance, and ensuring safe, high-quality care delivery 24/7. The ANM reports to the Department Manager and directly supervises line staff.
This position is ideal for an experienced RN with strong clinical skills in L&D and leadership experience (with or without direct reports), eager to advance their impact in maternal-child health.
- Oversee daily clinical operations and care delivery in L&D
- Provide direct supervision and support to RNs and clinical staff
- Monitor and manage patient safety, emergency preparedness, and adherence to clinical standards
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to ensure best outcomes
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and promote evidence-based practices
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Nursing Practice Act, and other regulatory agencies
- Participate in budget monitoring, staffing decisions, and resource allocation
- Maintain clinical competencies and provide education, mentorship, and training
- Conduct staff evaluations, implement development plans, and address performance issues
- Support patients, families, and staff during critical incidents and escalate as needed
- Registered Nurse (RN), California - Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required
- Associate s Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field
- 2+ years of experience in L&D patient care delivery in an acute care setting
- 1+ year of experience in a leadership capacity (e.g., Charge Nurse, Preceptor, Educator)
- BSN or higher degree
- Experience in a Magnet or unionized facility
- Familiarity with quality/safety regulations, compliance, and strategic planning
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and Nursing Practice Act
- Training in evidence-based medicine, clinical documentation, and project management
- Leadership & team management
- Labor & Delivery clinical expertise
- Strong decision-making and triage capability
- Clinical documentation and EMR use
- Communication and conflict resolution
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks (TJC, OSHA, Nursing Practice Act)
- Emergency response protocols and maternal-child care standards
