Overview
Midtown Family Services provides support for low-income individuals and families living in San Jose and surrounding communities in two program areas: financial counseling and navigation services for low-income, working community members with basic needs; and reentry support for individuals returning to the community after incarceration in state prison.
ResponsibilitiesVolunteer duties include:
- Assist with unloading donated food distributed from vehicles that pick it up from area grocers or the Second Harvest of Silicon Valley warehouse
- Cart food into Midtown Family Services' office
- Weigh the food
- Place food on shelves or into a refrigerator or freezer
- Help clean up after the initial rush of neighbors in need has passed
- Cart waste cardboard to the recycling bin
Please be aware that volunteers are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m., but drivers may be delayed. If you arrive and the van has not yet arrived, please wait—we are on our way.
QualificationsThe ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish or Vietnamese, is a plus.
