With our Civic Engagement program, we will be engaging and educating community members in the South Bay Area, encouraging them to join with their neighbors, and care for the community, and participate in collective action.

Description

Canvassers will work with Working Partnerships USA by participating in phone banking and door‑to‑door canvassing efforts, engaging voters and community volunteers who participated in recent elections, along with workers and employers who have expressed interest in learning more about their rights. This canvassing team will learn how to have organizing conversations, which includes listening to community members from various backgrounds, inviting them to build power with other workers by organizing into action pods with neighbors and other workers, and joining We Are California.

DAILY

ACTIVITIES
  • This position will be a mix of working in the field and at our office in North San Jose
  • Contact registered voters by going door to door and/or phone banking
  • Follow Civic Engagement Program Script to engage voters
  • Reach daily and weekly benchmark goals for the number of voters contacted and supporters identified
  • Maintain organization and accuracy when recording canvassing/phoning activities or maintaining their materials
REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be available from January 9, 2026 through April 30, 2026, with the possibility of an extension through the summer, and attend all mandatory training (one of them happening in Los Angeles January 13-15).
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as ability to connect with diverse people, always maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Must be professional and able to work well in a team
  • Must arrive at the correct date, time, and location during designated time, including reliable transportation to get to our office.
  • Must be able to read a street map, feel confident talking to voters on the phone, and going door-to-door.
  • Must have a strong commitment to social and racial justice.

  • Lift approximately 20-25 lbs. on occasion.

  • Ability to adapt and perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly to clients or employees of the organization.

  • High level of manual dexterity to adeptly type and use computer equipment.
  • Auditory and visual skills – Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Auditory abilities include the capacity to hear and comprehend verbal instructions, participate in conversations, and detect relevant sounds in the work environment.
  • Follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
PREFERRED
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior canvassing or phone banking experience
  • A driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a car is strongly preferred. Reliable transportation is required.
SCHEDULE, WAGES, LOCATION
  • This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt position.
  • This position will have a mandatory training from January 13 to January 15, 2026 with the time to be determined. Additionally, candidates will be required to work half days on some weekends.
  • Salary Range: $28-$30/hour
  • Team Members who use a personal vehicle for the position will be reimbursed for mileage according to the federal mileage reimbursement rate. Options for transit reimbursement may be available.
