Abode, one of the largest nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Maintenance Tech II for our Kirk Ave Emergency Shelter program in San Jose, CA.

. This position is on-call 24 hours and/or on-call rotation and may oversee other maintenance and janitorial staff. Knowledge of property management software and Microsoft Office is required.
The Role
The Maintenance Technician II must be able to perform highly skilled and specialized contractor work. This role will organize, coordinate, and manage the overall maintenance program of a supportive housing property, including property condition and appearance, timely work order service, quality make-ready/turnover of units, safety procedures, and cost-effective inventory control of the property.

- Diagnose and perform major, minor, and routine maintenance/repair to housing quality standards
- Ensure all service requests are completed daily
- Follow up on completed service requests to ensure satisfaction
- Respond to service requests and after-hours emergency calls
- Inspect vacant units and oversee make-ready duties
- Inform and/or recommend to the property manager of needed service or repairs
- Inspect exterior of the property and maintain common areas daily
- Complete or oversee preventative maintenance and capital improvement needs; maintain records
- Maintain shop appearance, equipment, and parts inventory
- Promote good public relations with residents, coworkers, vendors, and outside agencies
- Demonstrate initiative, professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Comply with company standards, safety procedures, and local codes
- Coordinate with outside vendors and ensure work is safe and meets specifications
- Report and update property management software for work orders
- Attend required training and participate in staff meetings
- Foster teamwork and respectful interactions with residents, staff, and visitors
- Have an insured vehicle for transporting work materials
- Other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
- 3 years’ experience in unit turnover, hotel or residential maintenance; 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred
- Valid California driver’s license, auto insurance, and clean DMV record; access to personal vehicle
- Excellent verbal and written English communication; strong organizational and time management skills
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and with teams
- Plumbing, electrical, and carpentry knowledge; sheetrock and cabinetry repair
- Experience with troubleshooting apartment-related problems and safety regulations
- Quality control, health and safety compliance for residential maintenance
- Interpersonal skills, confidentiality, and ability to work with diverse populations
- Visual acuity for inspections; proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile devices
- Communication and reading requirements; manual dexterity with tools
- Prolonged sitting/standing, driving for extended periods
- Navigate stairs and all property areas, including roofs and basements
- Operate cleaning equipment and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move between floors, climb stairs, and traverse uneven terrain
