Overview

Align is looking for a Senior Trademark Paralegal to join its rapidly growing and collaborative legal team. As a member of Align’s IP team, you will support the development, management, and protection of Align’s brands. You should be enthusiastic about brands and trademarks, a team player, proactive about your role and duties, and be intellectually curious. The position is full-time and based in San Jose, California.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the enforcement, prosecution, and maintenance of Align’s global trademark rights.
  • Provide high quality work product in appearance and substance; set goals and timelines to achieve outcomes; collaborate with in-house lawyers, outside counsel, and internal business partners.
  • Support day-to-day administration of the company’s trademark group, including interaction with the Global Trademark Team on complex issues.
  • Prosecution of trademarks globally (applications, office actions, statements of use, maintenance, and other filings).
  • Support with trademark, copyright, and domain enforcement globally (oppositions, cancellations, UDRP proceedings, and related evidence collection).
  • Conduct trademark monitoring and review watch notices; run preliminary clearance searches.
  • Prepare and file copyright applications; manage the trademark docket.
  • Create and maintain internal trademark/enforcement systems and guidelines to improve efficiency.
  • Provide IP due diligence support as needed; manage processing of legal documents (notarization, apostilles).
  • Support trademark vendors and law firms (opening matters, updating records, invoicing); provide substantive assistance to the Global Trademark Team; perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent.
  • 6-10 years of paralegal experience, including 3-4 years in trademark practice at a law firm.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Effective written and spoken communication; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • Familiarity with IP tools and software for portfolio management, enforcement, and IP docketing (e.g., Saegis, WebTMS, Brightflag, among others).
  • Understanding of general business operations beyond basic legal issues; experience with international trademark practices and Madrid filings.
  • Familiarity with conducting trademark clearance searches (including common law searching and vendors).
  • Experience with internet issues, domain names, and copyright prosecution.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently while balancing priorities; good judgement; curiosity, flexibility, and motivation.
  • Experience in the medical device field is a plus.
Pay, Benefits, and Equal Opportunity

Compensation: $121,200 - $166,700 per year. This range may be adjusted based on location, experience, and other factors. Align also offers a comprehensive benefits package described in general terms, including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase program, paid time off, parental leave, and other programs. Specific benefits are described in the company’s benefits documentation and applicable policies.
