The Core Infrastructure & RoleThe Core Infrastructure Team is responsible for managing all of the infrastructure and databases utilize Foglight, Data Dog (for Logging, Metrics, and APM), Splunk, and Cloud Watch for real-time alerts. We are strong advocates of Infrastructure as Code and use Terraform and AWS ECS. We are looking for a Staff Database Reliability Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle on AWS to join and support our mission-critical database systems.
This role is not a traditional "Click-Ops" DBA. We seek an automation-first engineer focused on modernizing enterprise database stacks, reducing manual toil, and tackling large data challenges to drive business results.
Your Role: As a Staff Database Reliability Engineer, you will serve as the Subject Matter Expert responsible for managing, optimizing, and ensuring the stability of our Oracle and cloud-native ecosystems. You will pivot our stack toward full automation, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and seamless scaling.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you’ll do: As a Staff Database Reliability Engineer, you will work with Systems Engineers and Architects to design, implement, and scale the database engines powering the BILL suite of applications. You will drive automation, reliability, and performance improvements across Oracle and cloud-native environments.
Qualifications- Deep Oracle Expertise: 8+ years of experience in database engineering with a primary focus on Oracle (19c or later), including performance tuning (AWR, ASH, execution plans), security, and access control.

Experience:
3+ years managing mission-critical Oracle databases on AWS (RDS Custom or EC2). - Automation
Skills:
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (writing custom modules, state management) OR advanced scripting/development using Python (boto3, automation frameworks). Candidates must be able to demonstrate code samples. - Replication Mastery:
Advanced experience with Oracle Golden Gate for real-time data integration and migration. - Git Ops Mindset:
Experience applying an SDLC approach to infrastructure changes (CI/CD pipelines, Git Lab/Git Hub). - Observability:
Experience with Foglight, Data Dog, Splunk, and Cloud Watch for real-time monitoring and issue resolution. - Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Oracle Certification: OCP or OCM credentials.
- Modern CDC Tools:
Familiarity with Debezium. - No

DB. - AWS Certification: AWS Certified Database - Specialty.

The estimated salary range for this role is noted below for our San Jose-based role and may vary by candidate experience, expertise, and location. The role is eligible for a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), flexible spending and health savings accounts, paid holidays, paid time off, and other benefits. Salary:
San Jose pay range $180,000—$216,000 USD.
