We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lab Engineer to support the Spokane Product Development Lab. This role plays a critical part in enabling both production systems and flexible testing environments for our Test and Product Development teams. You will be responsible for setting up, configuring, and maintaining lab infrastructure, including Linux systems, network devices, and virtual environments. This is a hands‑on role that offers the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge technologies and collaborate with talented engineers across the organization.
PRIMARYRESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up, configure, document, and maintain Linux and Windows systems, network devices, and virtualization platforms in the lab.
- Perform network cabling, rack setup, and physical infrastructure planning.
- Configure and manage networking components, including VLANs, routing, switching, and firewall rules.
- Deploy and manage virtualization technologies such as VMware, Open Stack, KVM, and XCP‑ng.
- Maintain and optimize storage systems used in lab environments.
- Perform regular audits of configuration and inventory data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Create and maintain scripts and tools to automate lab configuration, provisioning, and usability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve lab and network outages, hardware failures, and system performance issues.
- Address help‑desk tickets from lab users in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with IT and facilities teams to resolve connectivity, power, and cooling issues.
- Participate in the design, monitoring, and improvement of lab services and infrastructure.
- Ensure proper documentation of lab systems, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Own and manage end‑to‑end lab operations, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security of lab environments.
- Perform regular audits of labs – server racks power, stock maintenance in lab.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong experience in Linux and Windows systems administration.
- Hands‑on experience with enterprise networking: switch configuration, VLANs, routing protocols, and firewall rules.
- Experience with storage technologies and capacity planning.
- Scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
- Understanding of web technologies including HTTP, HTML, and JavaScript.
- Solid grasp of IP networking fundamentals: L2, L3, and L4–L7 protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues independently.
- Experience with lab infrastructure planning, including cabling, power, and cooling.
- Proficiency in virtualization platforms: VMware, Open Stack, KVM, XCP‑ng.
- Experience with Infoblox for IP address management and DNS/DHCP services.
- Familiarity with Network Configuration Manager (NCM) for device configuration backups.
- Exposure to switching authentication protocols (802.1X, RADIUS, TACACS).
- Experience in data center environments (production or dev/lab).
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 5–7+ years of experience in enterprise network environments & physical lab understanding.
- 3–5+ years of experience with virtualization platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with Python or other scripting is a plus.
- Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies.
- Duties may require occasional work outside normal hours (evenings/weekends).
