We have a client in San Jose, CA seeking an HR Manager to start ASAP! They would be open to someone at the Senior HR Generalist level that is looking to scale their experience!!
Highlights of the role:- This is a full-time position and NOT a temporary role
- Construction industry experience is preferred/required
- Union and Non-union labor force management is required
- Salary is up to $90K
- 5-days onsite (San Jose, CA location)
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration and execution of human resources functions for a construction company with approximately 200 employees, comprised of both union and non-union work forces. This role is highly transactional and hands-on, providing direct support to employees, supervisors, and leadership while ensuring consistent application of policies, labor agreements, and employment laws. The HR Manager serves as the primary point of contact for employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, and compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Employee Relations & Performance Management- Administer performance management processes, including tracking evaluations, disciplinary actions, corrective action plans, and terminations
- Handle employee relations issues on a daily basis, including employee complaints, investigations, conflict resolution, and documentation
- Provide guidance to supervisors and managers on policy interpretation, performance issues, attendance, and conduct matters
- Support both union and non-union employees with onboarding, offboarding, and new hire orientation
- Assist with administration of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), including interpretation of contract language and coordination with management and union representatives as needed
- Ensure consistent and compliant application of policies and procedures across union and non-union populations
- Partner with payroll to ensure accurate employee data, classifications, timekeeping, and deduction
- Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and annual open enrollment
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions and vendor coordination
- Coordinate recruiting activities, including job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and offer processing
- Manage pre-employment processes such as background checks, drug testing, and new hire paperwork
- Conduct new hire orientations and ensure completion of required documentation and training
- Implement and administer company HR policies and procedures; ensure employees and managers understand policy requirements
- Serve as the main point of contact for company-wide policy rollouts and changes
- Maintain employee records, HRIS data, and personnel files in compliance with legal and company requirements
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, with emphasis on wage & hour, leave administration, and workplace policies
- 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant hands-on, transactional HR responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, with emphasis on wage & hour compliance
- Experience supporting a union environment
- Ability to manage high-volume employee relations and administrative HR tasks independently
- Preferred
- Construction industry experience
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
