Based in Santa Monica, we have 6 convenient locations throughout Los Angeles County. The Medical Assistant works with the physician and other members of the primary or specialty care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient-related duties. The medical assistant also works to fulfill a variety of patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow within the department. This role will be based in Santa Monica with travel to Sherman Oaks. The ideal candidate for the Medical Assistant will be able to support a busy podiatry practice with weekly travel to Sherman Oaks.

The ideal candidate will also have some front desk experience and will be cross‑trained to occasionally help to support the front desk as needed.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Greet patients on the phone and in person
  • Place patients in the exam rooms
  • Take vital signs and perform ancillary tests appropriate to skill level
  • Assist and set up for providers during examination, treatment, and procedures
  • Keep accurate patient files
  • Apply dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by provider
  • Ensure rooms are stocked with necessary supplies
  • Maintain a sanitized and safe working environment
  • Maintain HIPAA
  • Coordination of services between multiple practices demonstrable by excellent communication skills
  • Schedule appointments as needed
  • Communicate clearly on the phone and accurately document and assign messages
  • Confirm and update contact information for all patients at every contact
  • Make follow‑up calls for any messages left
  • Document appointment visit status, including rescheduled, cancelled, confirmed, left voice message, or any other status appropriately
  • Additional front office responsibilities as needed
  • Perform other medical assistant duties as necessary
Requirements
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies
  • Ability to adapt to advancement and changing technology
  • Ability to show attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Basic typing skills to input various data into information systems
  • Experience in an outpatient practice
  • Able to coordinate services, assist patients with office, medications and procedure authorizations and explain process to patients
  • Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR
  • Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to prioritize work efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Must be able to multi‑task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice, which includes increasing work hours as needed to cover the practice needs
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced setting
Education and Experience
  • 3+ years of medical assistant experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training

Salary

$23‑$25 per hour
