Job Summary
Join our dynamic finance team as an Accounting Technician and play a vital role in keeping our Accounts Payable operations running smoothly and accurately. In this fast‑paced role, you’ll process invoices, credit card transactions, and expense reports while supporting month‑end reconciliations and maintaining precise financial records. We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, Excel‑savvy, experienced with SAP and/or Workday, and takes pride in accuracy and confidentiality.

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Office of the CFO, Finance & Budget fulfills the Controller and Treasury functions for VTA, including financial reporting, accounting, budgeting, investment services, cash management, debt administration, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, farebox revenue services, and technology. The division’s goal is to maintain financial stability and ensure that all monetary activities are performed, recorded, and presented in compliance with professional and ethical guidelines.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
Under limited supervision, the Accounting Technician performs a wide variety of paraprofessional accounting functions, providing advanced accounting support that enhances the efficiency of the Accounts Payable team.
Ideal CandidateWe seek a detail‑oriented, motivated professional who will support daily operations by processing invoices, credit cards, and expense reports; managing accounts payable; performing month‑end reconciliations; and ensuring precise data entry. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, proficiency in Excel, experience with ERP systems such as SAP and/or Workday, and a steadfast commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
Typical Tasks- Prepare periodic reports and spreadsheets of reimbursement claims in conformance with contractual requirements of outside funding sources.
- Break down and reconstruct detailed budget expenditures and encumbrances data into categories and formats requested by the state or other funding agencies.
- Meet critical deadlines and maintain detailed records for scheduled reports.
- Determine appropriate budget categories for assigning expenditures, revenue, and general ledger transactions.
- Maintain manual warrant registers and prepare manual payment warrants; generate payment proof reports and check runs.
- Research, compile, and produce accounting reports and summaries for special projects as requested.
- Maintain and verify vendor, customer, and employee data in the Enterprise Resource System.
- Consult with bank personnel, contractors, construction inspectors, and finance managers to gather information and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare journal vouchers and other accounting system input documents.
- Reconcile complex data including payments made for garnishments, employee pay, deductions, taxes, accruals, benefits, and other accounts.
- Perform activities in the Ticket Tracking System, including setting up and maintaining consignee accounts, processing invoices, processing ticket mail outs, reconciling ticket accounts and inventory.
- Prepare financial documents for electronic transfer payments, payroll data, and other fiscal transactions.
- Receive progress payment documents from construction inspectors and verify that the work matches the bid documents.
- Generate progress payment requests and verify data input into systems.
- Set up and maintain physical and database records; review extra work orders and ensure documentation is complete.
- Complete final close‑out activities of progress payment reports.
- Explain departmental procedures and practices to others.
- Assist in training new or temporary personnel as needed.
- Notify accountants and managers of imbalances and discrepancies.
- Type correspondence and perform other clerical duties as necessary.
