Responsibilities

• The Tax Team at Byte Dance helps ensure that our company and all our products are tax compliant throughout different regions and countries. Also, the Tax Team provides support to internal requests and works with multiple different stakeholders to support product and business launches and new features.

• Support business teams in performing tax assessments for new products and in developing efficient, tax‑compliant solutions in the relevant jurisdictions.

• Build strong relationships with key internal non‑tax stakeholders and closely monitor any changes in the non‑tax environment (e.g., changes in accounting policies, user privacy regulations, etc.) that may give rise to potential tax implications or risks.

• Act as the Tax Point of Contact for business teams, handling and responding to day‑to‑day tax queries with a solutions‑oriented mindset.

• Support tax‑related decision‑making for key commercial contracts, product launches, and operational events, including digital advertising and e‑commerce related activities.

• Participate in global projects involving the Tax BP’s in‑scope products or business lines on an ad‑hoc basis.

• Share the latest business and product developments with the Tax team on a regular basis to ensure that all of international products and services comply with international tax requirements.

• Periodically review existing tax solutions and processes, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement.

• Monitor changes and updates in global tax legislation to identify potential tax impacts and provide corresponding tax solutions to business teams in advance, ensuring ongoing tax compliance.

• Support business teams through tax trainings and guidance sessions, enhancing tax awareness, compliance capability, and operational efficiency across global teams.

• Handle ad hoc requests from leadership as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualification(s):
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Minimum 5 years of tax experience, preferably within a digital marketplace company, or professional firms.

• Ability to set appropriate priorities when multi‑tasking, and deliver to a high standard at pace.

• Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and in person, as the role involves working with global partners across different time zones and cultures, as well as explaining tax‑technical issues to non‑tax professionals.

• Proficiency in Mandarin is essential, as the role requires frequent communication with Chinese stakeholders in Mandarin‑speaking markets.

• International tax experience in cross‑border transactions; experience with indirect taxes (VAT/GST/SUT) in the digital economy is highly preferred.

• A solid understanding of transfer pricing is a plus.

• Experience in the Internet/Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) industry is preferred.

Job Information

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $117,334 - $244,800 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
