, engineering doesn’t stop at drawings — our designs are built, commissioned, and brought to life in the field. We are seeking a Senior Plumbing Design Engineer who thrives in a hands‑on environment and wants real ownership over projects from concept through construction.
This is a technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating closely with Project Managers, contractors, and field teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions.
You won’t just issue plans — you’ll see your work installed and operating, gaining direct feedback that continuously elevates design quality and project outcomes.
What You’ll DoTechnical Leadership & Design Ownership
- Lead plumbing system design from basis‑of‑design through permit and Issued‑for‑Construction (IFC) deliverables
- Establish system strategies including equipment selection, sizing, and documentation standards
- Design core plumbing systems including:
- Sanitary & vent systems
- Domestic hot & cold water systems
- Storm drainage
- Natural gas systems
- Design specialty and process utility systems such as:
- Compressed gases
- Lab/process waste and owner‑specific piping systems
- Apply California Plumbing Code (CPC), AHJ amendments, and Title 24 / CALGreen requirements
- Own QA/QC reviews prior to project issuance
- Validate calculations, pipe sizing, constructability, coordination, and documentation accuracy
- Improve internal engineering standards through templates, checklists, and training initiatives
- Elevate consistency and repeatability across projects
- Partner with Project Managers on scope development and technical solutions
- Present system approaches and engineering recommendations to clients and contractors
- Participate in design meetings as the plumbing engineering subject matter expert
- Conduct field surveys, site walks, and existing‑condition assessments
- Provide construction‑phase support including:
- RFIs
- Design clarifications
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, and trade partners to resolve clashes and improve constructability
- Mentor and guide junior engineers through active project work
- Support engineering development and technical growth across the team
- Provide feedback to leadership on training needs, tools, and process improvements
- Help raise the technical bar across the engineering organization
7–10 years of experience in commercial construction or plumbing engineering
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
PE License preferred (not required)
Strong expertise in plumbing system design, equipment selection, and installation standards
Deep understanding of local and California building codes
Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit experience highly preferred)
Experience working with a mechanical contractor or engineering consultant strongly preferred
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
