About the RoleThis mid‑level Project Manager – Hydropower Generation Services role will support Hydropower Projects across the company’s portfolio. The candidate will own multiple services projects encompassing hydropower plant capital improvements, equipment refurbishment, plant life extension programs, hydraulic structure projects (including spillway refurbishment, spillway gates, cranes, hoists), and other civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes related to balance‑of‑plant systems for existing facilities. Other scopes may include feasibility studies, pumped‑storage, and synchronous condenser technology.
Inthis role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide technical support for client projects with design review services, design engineering services, and development engineering support.
- Support client projects with feasibility studies, energy production estimates, and cost estimates, construction support, and testing & commissioning.
- Provide proposal support with technical specification preparation, RFP support, and bid evaluation.
- Oversee EPC contractors for client projects.
- Support client interface, assisting in developing client relationships and identifying new project opportunities, including pre‑positioning for favorable consideration by the client.
- Be part of the Hydro North West Hydro Leadership team responsible for defining client and project implementation strategies and making project and team staff decisions.
- Actively promote Black & Veatch’s operational and safety culture.
- Ensure achievement of project goals for safety, compliance, schedule, quality, financials, reputation, and client expectations.
- Champion a positive culture and nurture team collaboration.
- Respond to RFPs and prepare proposals for services work.
- Lead project teams in engineering services projects for hydropower.
- Coordinate with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as the interface between clients, external stakeholders, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Work in both corporate and field environments.
- Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers.
- Provide support to business development for pursuit activities.
Acts as a project manager with responsibility for managing a project team; team composition may vary by project.
Preferred Qualifications- 12+ years of experience in hydropower or hydraulic structures.
- 5+ years of experience in project management with full responsibility for project outcomes.
- Previous experience with engineering projects in a utility power plant setting.
- Experience in design and operation support of conventional and pumped‑storage hydroelectric generation stations.
- Previous experience in a client‑facing role.
- Typical experience of 7 years or more.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion.
- Typical office and construction environments; exposure to extreme weather, high noise, safety hazards (electric currents, scaffolding, high places, chemicals), and atmospheric conditions.
- Work involves sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding; driving; filing; reaching; stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods; lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds.
