Align Technology is looking for a Engineering Lab Technician-Contractor for our San Jose, CA office. This exciting new role would be part of a culture that is helping to improve lives every day through digital dentistry.
The Engineering Lab Technician-Contractor candidate should have exceptional skills with product research and development in the medical device industry. The Engineering Lab Technician-Contractor will support projects focusing on product design and design improvement. They will work closely with internal resources in a multidisciplinary team working with biomechanics, materials, and manufacturing to conduct research and development in the areas of product performance, design, and improvement.
This role will be part of Align Technology’s goal to deliver our clear aligners (Invisalign®) to our customers.
- Perform measurement and mechanical testing using standard and non-standard mechanical testing equipment and document work in accordance with FDA/ISO regulations, including test protocols, test results, and other requirements
- Observe and report findings from execution of pre- and post-processing activities
- Maintain records, follow work instructions, and ensure standards of safety and quality
- Manage work queue by communicating with cross-functional teams
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory, including tracking and receiving of equipment and parts
- Manage and perform quality activities such as calibration, qualification, and maintenance
- Work in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines
- Need strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions
- Provide general engineering support in R&D
- Two-year technical degree minimum (i.e., AA, Certificate) in Mechanical/Biomedical Engineering or other related degrees/equivalent work experience.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in biomedical research and/or product development
- Ability to operate benchtop test equipment and custom mechanical measurement and testing equipment
- Ability to operate 3D printers and scanners
- Good mechanical problem-solving skills and bench fixturing/tooling design experience
- Good communication skills
- Excellent manual dexterity
- Experience in medical device industry
- Experience in orthodontics and/or dental industry
