DescriptionJoin our 3D Printing Materials R&D team in San Jose, CA as a Senior Lab Technician
, supporting innovative material development through hands‑on lab work, data analysis, and cross‑functional collaboration. You will contribute to new product development with a focus on evaluating new formulations and device characterization
. You will play a key role in advancing next‑generation 3D printing materials that enable cutting‑edge applications in healthcare and consumer products.
- Support product development activities under the supervision of technical staff.
- Conduct laboratory‑based research activities including material testing and device characterization.
- Manage and prioritize tasks effectively to meet project timelines and deliverables.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data from instrumentation and measurements.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and documentation.
- Prepare clear and concise written reports to communicate key findings and experimental outcomes.
- Communicate experimental results and observations with engineering teams, seeking feedback and guidance as needed.
- Operate safely and responsibly within a laboratory environment.
- Take initiative in optimizing processes and contributing to technical strategy for material development.
- Identify opportunities to improve lab workflows and implement best practices for efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for material‑related issues.
- Assist in evaluating new equipment and technologies for material characterization and testing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Familiarity with chemistry or resin formulation.
- Hands‑on experience with material characterization or process techniques.
- Willing to learn new technique skills.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems or data visualization tools.
- Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
- 4+ years of experience in material research.
- Knowledge of photopolymers.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges and propose creative solutions.
- Comfortable presenting findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
If provided, base salary or wage rate ranges are the range in which Align reasonably expects to set a candidate’s pay for the posted position. Actual placement depends on the individual skills and experience level of a candidate plus the total compensation and equity across team members. For other locations outside of the primary location, the base salary range will be adjusted geographically.
For Field Sales roles, the salary listed is the base pay only and does not include the applicable incentive compensation plan. A cost of living adjustment may be added to base pay for higher cost areas in the U.S.
Our internship hourly rates are a standard pay determined based on the position and your location, year in school, degree, and experience.
