Position: Summer Camp Lead Instructor (Seasonal)

Position Summary

The Summer Camp Instructor is responsible for facilitating engaging, hands‑on STEM learning experiences for children in grades 3–6 during The Tech Interactive’s summer day camp program. Instructors lead groups of campers through inquiry‑based design challenges, experiments, and collaborative activities that inspire creativity, curiosity, and problem‑solving. This position reports to the Camp Manager and works closely with the camp team to deliver a safe, inclusive, and joyful camp experience.

This is a 40 hours per week seasonal position for the Summer camp season. This is a non‑exempt (hourly) role reporting to the Summer Camp Program Manager.

Summer Camp at the Tech this year runs from June 15 to August 7, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate hands‑on science, engineering, and design activities using provided lesson plans and materials, adapting instruction as needed to meet the needs of different age groups and learning styles.
  • Lead daily camp programming for a consistent group of campers, supporting engagement, collaboration, and positive group dynamics.
  • Prepare, set up, maintain, and reset classroom spaces and materials for daily camp activities, including cleaning, organizing, and restocking supplies.
  • Support campers’ social‑emotional needs by fostering an inclusive, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors, staff, and camp leadership to ensure smooth daily operations and high‑quality programming.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, high‑energy camp culture by participating in camp traditions such as theme days, costumes, and playful activities that help create a joyful, engaging experience for campers.
  • Follow all safety procedures and behavior management protocols to ensure the well‑being of campers at all times.
  • Participate in required staff training, orientation, and scheduled meetings prior to and during the camp season.
  • Provide informal feedback to Instructors and Camp Leadership to support continuous improvement of camp activities and camper experience.
  • Complete additional camp‑related duties as assigned by the Camp Manager or Education leadership.
Requirements and Skills
  • 1 or more years of experience with classroom teaching or working with children in a formal or informal educational setting (such as camps, after school programs, museums, or classrooms) as a primary instructional role leading experiences
  • Enthusiasm for the unique culture of summer camp, including participating in theme days, playful traditions, costumes, and other joyful, high‑energy elements that help create a fun, welcoming camp experience.
  • Ability to engage and communicate scientific and technical concepts to young learners with a wide range of prior knowledge and experience.
  • Enthusiasm for hands‑on, inquiry‑based, and cooperative learning approaches.
  • Strong classroom/group management skills and the ability to adapt in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Pursuing or completed BA/BS in education, science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Experience with STEM programming or project‑based learning is highly desired.
  • Fluency in one or more languages common to the San Francisco Bay Area is a plus.
Working Conditions and Schedule
