Overview

Purpose:

Our teachers play a key role in bringing to life the academic and cultural visions of our schools. This includes daily lesson planning, intentional curriculum design, and regular data analysis to help all students learn and grow. Our teachers also implement Social Emotional Learning lessons and Restorative Practices to create a joyful, inclusive classroom community.

Responsibilities

    Collaboration:

    work closely with the school’s Leadership Team, including the Instructional Coach, to ensure students are learning and growing through weekly meetings and ongoing feedback.
  • Commitment to Anti-Racism: participate in ongoing development to reflect on identities and experiences and how that shapes educators and leaders; regularly analyze school systems, academics, culture, data, etc., to progress toward being an anti-racist organization and to address community needs.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • Experience as an educator teaching students with demographics similar to the KIPP Public Schools Northern California student community.
Education
  • Hold a B.A./B.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
    • Hold a valid teaching credential in the desired subject or
    • Eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit or Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit
    • (CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross is a prerequisite for this permit)
Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong content area knowledge
  • Strong relationship-building with students, families, and communities
  • Effective communication with students, families, and colleagues
  • Proficient with Google Suite (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Ability to learn and use instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (e.g., Zoom, Nearpod) as needed
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage development, proposal, and implementation of eligible students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEP) in accordance with state and federal law
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop measurable annual goals in students’ areas of need (academic, behavioral, social-emotional)
  • Provide specialized academic instruction, behavior intervention services, and other special education services as assigned through models including co-teaching, push-in, pull-out, small groups, and one-to-one support
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward IEP goals, report progress to families, and inform instructional practices
  • Develop daily and long-term lesson plans aligned with IEPs and KIPP’s mission and vision
  • Collaborate with general education colleagues to accommodate, differentiate, and modify student learning and materials
  • Develop individualized, modified lessons and/or curriculum for students with modified curricula
  • Train key stakeholders to support delivery of instruction
  • Maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging learning environment incorporating Restorative Practices and social-emotional learning
  • Implement culturally responsive classroom management to create a safe learning environment
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, families, and other stakeholders to support IEP implementation
  • Attend and engage in professional development and communities of practice
  • Update and maintain students’ special education records (digital and physical), including IEP documents, progress reports, evaluations, and related documentation
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

Physical:
Ability to navigate school and classroom settings; access and use technology; occasional lifting/carrying of equipment up to 1-20 lbs; mobility to perform duties (kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, bending, stooping, reaching).
