Overview
Interview at San José State University – Department of Art and Art History. Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer, Part‑time, Class periods: 2 to 4 credit hours, 27 to 30 credit hours per semester.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate seminar courses in Art such as "The Artist in Contemporary Culture" and "Medium and Message" in hybrid or online format, including substantial studio components.
- Develop inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement that meet the needs of a diverse student population in age, cultural background, ethnicity, language, and academic preparation.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System and meet scheduled times throughout the course term.
- Participate in departmental meetings, assessment, and evaluation activities.
- Encourage critical thinking and iterative concept development within class assignments.
- Collaborate across programs in the Department of Art and Art History, contributing to curriculum development.
- Master of Fine Arts, Ph.D. in Art History, Visual Culture, or related field with substantial university‑level studio teaching experience.
- Demonstrated artistic and/or scholarly achievement, including a significant portfolio and research interests.
- Familiarity with emerging artistic practice and theory and ability to read, write, and assess student writing at a high level.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural student population.
Monthly salary ranges for full‑time academic‑year faculty, prorated for part‑time. Current ranges (monthly):
- L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 – $5,959
- L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 – $7,481
- L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 – $9,431
- L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 – $10,347
