Life Moves is the largest and most effective provider of interim housing and services for homelessness in Silicon Valley since 1987. Our Mission is to end homelessness by providing interim housing, supportive services, and building collaborative partnerships. With over two dozen interim supportive housing communities and more on the way, Life Moves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach.

POSITION

PURPOSE

The Director of Behavioral Health is responsible for collaborating with the Associate Director of Behavioral Health to oversee the recruitment, on‑boarding, and individual and group supervision of doctoral‑level supervises providing psychotherapy to clients of all ages across Life Moves. The Director will also provide didactic trainings to students in areas of interest, such as conceptualizing cases from preferred treatment modalities or instruction in particular evidence‑based interventions.

This role qualifies for a hybrid schedule (a minimum of 2 days in the office, 3 days remotely, and a maximum of 3 days remotely). The Director will also visit programs as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Practicum student recruitment and selection

  • Recruiting students from Bay Area universities and professional schools (e.g., attending annual Practicum Fairs and providing informational materials to prospective students and universities).
  • Reviewing practicum applications and interviewing prospective students for practicum positions each academic year.
  • Offering informational interviews to provide applicants with an overview of practicum duties and opportunities as needed.

Training

  • Updating the practicum handbook annually to reflect policy and procedure changes.
  • Organizing site visits for students who are providing services to clients at shelter sites.
  • Collaborating with the Directors of Behavioral Health and Social Work to create a calendar of didactic trainings for doctoral‑ and master’s‑level practicum students, which includes recruiting and scheduling appropriate trainers.
  • Leading several trainings per academic year that are consistent with the Director’s skills and practicum students’ needs.
  • Conducting occasional behavioral health‑related trainings for Life Moves non‑clinical staff.

Supervision

  • Providing and/or arranging for individual and group supervision for practicum students.
  • Meeting with students on an as needed basis for additional support.
  • Reviewing video/audio recordings of each individual supervisee’s therapy sessions at least 3x/year.
  • Reviewing, signing, and assisting trainees in editing documentation (e.g., intake assessments, psychotherapy progress notes…etc.) to ensure quality and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Providing ongoing, regular feedback to trainees on the quality and timeliness of their clinical work as well as their caseload.
  • Soliciting feedback from trainees regarding supervision and whether training needs are being met.
  • Completing periodic student evaluations as required by schools.
  • Addressing any concerns about the quality of supervises’ work in a timely manner.
  • Meeting regularly with contracted supervisors to assess student progress.
  • Responding to schools’ inquiries and contracts as needed.
  • Monitoring referrals for services, assuring their assignment to practicum students. Being available by phone to support students in addressing crises arising in their work.
  • Coordinate with development team and other stakeholders around responding to funder and program stakeholder requests as needed.
  • Manage Behavioral Health Program budget and spending.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD. or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology with a valid California license in psychology.
  • A minimum of 3‑5 years of supervision/mentorship experience.
  • Completion of 6 hours of supervision CE hours per license term required.
