Position: Coordinator, Academic Support (Science Lab)

Job Profile Summary

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for planning, organizing, and developing curriculum support initiatives in designated subject areas and providing support for department and college initiatives. Work requires the use of technology, initiative, and resourcefulness in making decisions within widely accepted standards. Performs related work as directed.

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum Experience and Training
  • Four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in data analysis and reports preparation.
  • Experience required is within the field or closely related field.
Essential Functions
  • Daily – 20%:
    Participate in department planning, develop and organize curriculum support materials, programs, and activities in the designated subject area(s), and coordinate with Academic Resources leadership to assess the effectiveness of tutoring support and other departmental initiatives to ensure academic integrity.
  • Daily – 15%:
    Assist with recruiting, interviewing, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating part‑time lab staff to provide quality tutoring and academic support services to students.
  • Daily – 10%:
    Coordinate with subject‑specific faculty on developing competency‑based lab initiatives for increased student success.
  • Daily – 20%:
    Assign part‑time tutors to specific department initiatives and to assist students with learning and core curriculum requirements to maximize student success.
  • Weekly – 5%:
    Provide direct tutoring to assist students with learning and core curriculum requirements to maximize student success.
  • Daily – 15%:
    Extract, document, and maintain statistical records of lab initiatives, activities, and student participation. Prepare reports, graphical summaries, and presentations and provide interpretations to analyze student success.
  • Monthly – 10%:
    Work closely with faculty each term to schedule and conduct classroom visits and orientations on lab resources, lab requirements, and related initiatives in support of students’ established curriculums. Promote academic support services during college events as needed.
  • Monthly – 5%:
    Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to tutor in designated subject areas.
  • Full proficiency in professional and functional standards and protocols of the position.
  • General understanding of the College’s structure, policies and practices, and their impact on one’s area.
  • Ability to contribute in multiple related areas within the function.
  • Expertise in understanding and following project plans, including coordination of multiple resources and activities.
  • Understanding and ability to coordinate interdependencies of work within the area and of resources from outside the area.
  • Ability to exchange information with individuals and collaborate with colleagues within the College, and presentation skills.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments (e.g., Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systems).
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with employee and student populations.
