About the RoleThe Early Head Start Associate Teacher assists the Lead Teacher and/or Center Director at our Toyon Center, which offers a Dual Language Immersion EHS program emphasizing Environmental Education. The role involves general supervision, development and education of children, and partnering with families.

- Serve as a language model in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Mandarin during working hours.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with program goals.
- Use classroom materials and routines to foster an environment conducive to age‑appropriate development, interests, and special needs.
- Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment in accordance with Head Start, Title 5, and Title 22 regulations.
- Implement rules and practices that promote positive child redirection.
- Facilitate continuous, interactive communication between families and program providers, supporting parent partnership agreements.
- Conduct parent–teacher meetings as required by the Head Start Act and Title 5.
- Administer ASQ and ASQ/SE assessments for assigned cohorts.
- Develop Individualized Education Plans for each child, updating with families.
- Maintain and update written records and reports in accordance with Head Start and Title 5 regulations timely.
- Maintain open, friendly relationships with staff, parents, and program volunteers.
- Commit to inclusive practices for children with learning differences and special needs.
- Integrate Head Start Federal Mandates into classroom routines and curriculum plans.
- Provide personalized special services to children with special needs (e.g., feeding, toileting assistance, diapering, specialized equipment).
- Attend required classroom, center, and organization meetings.
- Assist other centers when requested.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Associate Teacher Permit or higher credential.
- 3 ECE units of Infant–Toddler Development.
- Bi‑literate in Spanish (required) and/or Mandarin, Vietnamese (preferred).
- Experience supervising teaching assistants and volunteers (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of Federal Head Start policies and procedures (highly desirable).
- Required CPR/First Aid Training Certification.
- ≥16 hours of health and safety training, including 1 hour of nutrition training.
- Required to be a mandated abuse reporter.
$35.28 each hour.
Additional Requirements- Pass a health screening and TB test.
- Pass background fingerprint clearance.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Be 18 years or older.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs may be required for some duties.
