The Electrical Engineering Department at San José State University (SJSU) provides high-quality Electrical Engineering education at undergraduate and graduate levels. The department offers classroom instruction by qualified EE faculty, hands-on experience in industry-sponsored laboratories, and opportunities for internships. The department serves over 400 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. The department supports students in gaining professional experience through roles such as Instructional Student Assistants, Teaching Associates, and EE interns in Silicon Valley firms.

Our graduates pursue diverse career opportunities in areas including device physics, micro and nano electronics, analog electronics, integrated circuits, communications, signal processing, networking and security, mobile networks, power electronics, energy systems, microprocessors and computer systems, embedded systems, control, robotics, autonomous systems, machine learning and deep learning, and quantum information and quantum computing. Lecturers are expected to teach their courses effectively; maintain appropriate office hours in accordance with University policy; and cooperate with the department in peer-review and course assessment processes. Lecturers are encouraged to seek guidance from the Department Chair regarding university policies and department practices related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, academic integrity, etc.

All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid). All faculty shall organize their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. All classes at SJSU, whether online or not, must be anchored in Canvas to ensure faculty-student connection in a common space.

Candidates must demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population, including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation, through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.

• A Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience is required to teach undergraduate-level courses. A PhD or ScD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline is required to teach graduate-level courses.
• Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
• Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
• Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Anticipated starting salary:

L-A / Range 2 - $5,507 - $5,959

L-B / Range 3 - $6,221 - $7,481

L-C / Range 4 - $6,825 - $9,431

L-D / Range 5 - $8,593 - $10,347

Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty; part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12). See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.
