Art and Art History Lecturer Pool - History of Contemporary Art at The California State University

Brief

Description Of Duties

The successful candidate will teach upper-division undergraduate survey courses focusing on the History of Contemporary and New Media Art since 1960. Part-time faculty members may teach lower-division General Education courses in Art History and Visual Culture. The candidate will contribute to a dynamic department that encourages cross-disciplinary practice between studio art and contemporary art criticism and should engage with recent debates in new media and contemporary art practices.

Candidates must address the needs of a diverse student population in terms of age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation, using appropriate course materials and advisement. They will be expected to participate in 1-2 faculty meetings per semester and provide assessment data and information to the department.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a highly diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Offer and schedule classes as listed in the schedule of classes, including asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid formats.
Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in art history or equivalent field and university level teaching experience.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to direct and assess student writing.
  • Scholarly engagement in the area of design history as evidenced by presentations and publications.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as might be gained through cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.
Compensation and Starting Salary
  • Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. To learn more about range placement, see University Policy S21-2.
  • Anticipated Starting Salary:
    • L-A / Range 2 - $5,507 - $5,959
    • L-B / Range 3 - $6,221 - $7,481
    • L-C / Range 4 - $6,825 - $9,431
    • L-D / Range 5 - $8,593 - $10,347
  • Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty; part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12).

  • Employment Conditions
    • Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety).

    • Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and the California Faculty Association.
