Overview
San José State University is opening a position for a Sports Medicine Physician within the Student Wellness Center (SWC). The physician will provide specialized care in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, serve as a consultant to SWC clinicians, and collaborate with campus partners including SJSU Athletics and other student wellness departments. The role reports to the Director of Health Services and supports student well-being, health equity, and academic success.
In addition to direct patient care, the incumbent may provide primary care services as capacity allows.
- Evaluate and treat traumatic and overuse injuries, including fractures, concussions, sprains, and strains
- Perform musculoskeletal ultrasound procedures and guide rehabilitation and return-to-play decisions
- Serve as a consultant to SWC clinicians and liaison to SJSU Athletics
- Provide primary care and sexual health services, including medication abortion care
- Supervise radiology procedures and serve as Radiology Supervising Physician as appropriate
- Participate in administrative duties, staff meetings, accreditation processes, and quality improvement activities
- Thorough knowledge of medical principles, English grammar, and professional communication
- Ability to compose and format correspondence and reports
- Understanding of general medicine and public health, and knowledge of community resources
- Diagnostic decision-making, critical thinking, and medical counseling skills
- Physical ability and manual dexterity for patient care
- Knowledge of ethics, medical regulations, and relevant software
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to assess emergencies and coordinate clinical programming
- Respect for diversity and ability to work with a multicultural university population
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and plan work effectively
- Graduation from a medical school
- License and Certification Requirements:
Physicians – Specialty Services - A valid license to practice medicine in the State of California
- Current ABMS or AOA board certification in an appropriate specialty or subspecialty
- A valid DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances
- CPR/AED certification appropriate for duties
- Completion of one or more residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by ACGME or equivalent
- CDPH-RHB Supervisor & Operator Permit
- Two years or more of experience in Sports Medicine
- Experience with college populations (e.g., collegiate athletics or student health services)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $140/hour - $150/hour
CSU Salary Range: $83.19/hour - $161.90/hour
