Job Purpose

The Shipping Supervisor needs to ensure that finished goods are packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner. Manages the activities of the team and is responsible for staffing decisions, training and development, and performance management of the staff. Ensures the security and accountability of materials and goods with inventory control. Establishes and modifies operational methods and procedures. Directs the activities of those who contact vendors, customers and carriers to coordinate any problems such as misdirected and/or damaged goods.

May coordinate the handling of import and export requirements.

Provides cost effective, efficient and traceable movement of company products both in-bound and out-bound. Analyzes and recommends transportation and freight costs, as well as appropriate routing and carriers to be used. Ensures that lowest cost transportation is used to satisfy both customer and company needs.

Nature Of Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to, activities related to the receiving, storing, and/or shipping of materials or finished goods.
  • Ensures that products received in the shipping department are placed in proper inventory locations, and that finished goods are packaged according to specification and shipped in a timely manner.
  • Ensures orders are picked and kitted, and are available to meet shipping schedules.
  • Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities.
  • Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
  • Unpacks and checks goods received against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of received goods.
  • Lifts heavy items and operates a forklift (standing up, sitting down rider, and hand pallet jack).
  • Follows all company and facility policies including quality, safety, conduct and attendance.
  • Pick orders for shipping along with support staff
  • Must work with the production team to coordinate availability of orders/products based on what is on order and due to ship.
  • Supervise the activities of clerks engaged in shipping, storing, and receiving products and materials.
  • Report any damages or discrepancies for record-keeping purposes.
  • Assist with inventory counts of finished goods, packaging materials as needed.
  • Inspect the physical condition of the warehouse and suggest improvements to procedures to save time and/or to reduce costs.
  • Quality control – ensure all products shipped are in excellent condition.
