Job Purpose:
Fostering Growth and Competitive Spirit
The JV Girls Lacrosse Head Coach helps create and promote a healthy, inclusive, and competitive team culture. This role supports positive player‑coach and coach‑to‑coach relationships while providing student‑athletes with the opportunity to develop lacrosse skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship during their season.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Coaching and Player DevelopmentPractice Management:
Plan, direct, and supervise lacrosse practices and game preparation to ensure productive use of time.
Skill Instruction:
Teach sport‑specific skills, strategies, and fundamentals appropriate to the JV level to foster student‑athlete growth.
Team Presence:
Be present at all team practices, games, and team gatherings to provide consistent leadership.
Equipment Management:
Manage and maintain team equipment throughout the season.
Administrative Support:
Assist with uniform distribution and collection at the end of the season.
Travel Supervision:
Ride the team bus for practices and/or games when necessary to ensure student safety.
Professional Compliance:
Complete coaching education, certifications, and requirements as mandated by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and The Urban School. Participate in coaching and department meetings.
Culture Building:
Model and uphold The Urban School’s values of equity, respect, and community.
Camaraderie:
Create and coordinate opportunities for team building and camaraderie to strengthen team bonds.
Communication:
Communicate regularly with players, families, and the athletics department as necessary regarding schedules and team needs.
Experience:
Previous playing and/or coaching experience in lacrosse is preferred.
Education:
Undergraduate Degree is preferred. Leadership & Interpersonal
Skills:
Ability to foster positive team dynamics and student development. Must be organized, positive, patient, collaborative, and enjoy working with high school‑aged students.
Sport Knowledge:
Demonstrated knowledge of girls lacrosse rules, strategies, and fundamentals.
Physical Requirements
The role involves consistent hours after school, evenings, and weekends for practices, games, and travel.
Essential Physical TasksAbility to work on your feet for multiple hours.
Ability to participate in outdoor athletic activities.
Ability to comply with school health and safety requirements as applicable.
