Principal Firmware / Embedded Systems Tech Lead
Level: Principal / VP-scope (purely technical, no people management)
Our client is building production-grade humanoid robots for manufacturing and logistics and are looking for a Principal Firmware / Embedded Tech Lead to own the embedded stack powering our robotic fleet.
This is a hands-on, VP-level technical role
. You’ll make architecture decisions, ship firmware at scale, and set the quality bar for systems running on hundreds (and soon thousands) of real-world robots.
This is not a research role. This is firmware that ships, updates, and runs reliably in messy physical environments.
What You’ll Do- Own and evolve production firmware across a growing robotic fleet
- Design OTA updates, security, diagnostics, and logging systems
- Build real-time embedded systems for motors, sensors, and distributed devices
- Work closely with hardware and controls teams on system-level decisions
- Set long-term firmware architecture and quality standards
- Firmware shipped on 500+ devices in production
- Experience with OTA updates, security, diagnostics, and fleet reliability
- Strong understanding of C/C++, real-time systems, interrupts, and motor control
- Familiarity with SPI, CAN, EtherCAT
, time sync, and IMU signal processing - Systems mindset — you care about EMI, hardware constraints, and failure modes
Bonus: power electronics, FPGA, camera sensors, kernel-level work
Stack: C/C++, some Python, no ROS
