Backend Software Engineer

Caddie is hiring on behalf of a Series A fintech startup based in San Francisco.

Our client is building cutting-edge financial technology with a strong focus on real-time systems and AI-powered workflows. This is a highly product-focused backend engineering role, working directly with the founders to shape both the technical foundation and product direction of the company.

• Work closely with the CTO and CEO on technical strategy and product decisions
• Design, build, and optimize backend services and APIs
• Develop and scale real-time data processing infrastructure
• Implement and iterate on in-house Large Language Model–powered features
• Support and improve real-time interview and communication technology
• Lead projects from concept through production deployment
• Ensure backend systems are scalable, reliable, and production-ready
• Engage directly with users to gather feedback and iterate on core product features

• 3+ years of experience building and operating production-grade backend systems
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django, including building robust APIs
• Deep understanding of SQL and relational databases (Postgres preferred)
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS
• Proven ability to own systems end to end in a startup environment
• Strong product mindset and comfort making pragmatic technical tradeoffs
• Ability to clearly explain what you built, why you built it, and how it performed in production

• Experience with real-time systems, WebRTC, or data streaming
• Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure or LLM-powered applications

• This role is not suited for junior engineers or narrow big-company specialists. The ideal candidate has demonstrated ownership of backend systems in production, stability in past roles, and experience working closely with founders or small product teams. You should be comfortable iterating quickly based on real user feedback and shipping improvements continuously.
