Senior Software Engineer

About the Role

Uber’s Search Platform team is responsible for the Search experience across several product surfaces, enabling millions of users to find, discover, and explore rides, food, and more. Search has played an increasingly important role in bringing Uber closer to its vision. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in search infrastructure, showcasing a profound understanding of search algorithms, distributed systems, and scalability.

• Design and implement new features in our search infrastructure solutions.
• Join on‑call rotation, driving continuous improvements on system availability, scalability, performance, and efficiency.
• Collaborate with other infrastructure teams, the production engineering team, and product managers to drive adoption, standardize processes, and design and implement high‑impact, cross‑product features.

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 5 years of working experience in the software engineering industry.
• Proficient in one of the following programming languages:
  Java, Go, C/C++ or similar languages. Good scripting skills and ability to pick up new ones.
• Systematic problem‑solving approach and knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.

• Experience with Apache Lucene, Elastic Search, Open Search, Solr, and other search technologies is a plus.
• Experience with Vector
  
  DB, Vector Search, semantic search is a plus.
• Experience with highly available/fault‑tolerant, replicated data storage systems, large‑scale data processing systems, or enterprise/cloud storage systems is also a strong plus.

For San Francisco, CA- and Sunnyvale, CA-based roles the base salary range is USD $202,000 per year – USD $224,000 per year. For all US locations you will be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, may be offered an equity award & other types of comp, and are eligible for various benefits.
