We're seeking a Real-Time Systems Engineer to build the infrastructure that keeps our robot fleet online, accessible, and optimally performing 24/7. You'll architect the full stack—from robust streaming and networking to fleet management tools, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure. Your work will ensure that operators across the globe can seamlessly control robots in US warehouses while we capture the high-quality data that drives our autonomy roadmap.
Whatwe do
Avatar Robotics is building flexible robot fleets to revolutionize industrial work across the country. We're on a mission to make every tedious and dangerous warehouse/factory job virtual, safe, and semi-autonomous.
With proven AI approaches and long distance teleoperation, you'll join a team that deploys a physical work solution that's scalable now, not later. We envision a world where millions of machines will make our goods and consumables more affordable and accessible than ever, while critical workers operate these robot fleets from the comfort of their homes.
At Avatar Robotics, you'll create the workforce of the future—in one of the largest markets ($1T+ manual labor market in the US alone).
We're a small but powerful team at the early innings of deploying thousands of units into facilities worldwide.
What you'll do- Design and implement robust video streaming pipelines for multi-camera HD feeds with sub-100ms latency.
- Optimize real-time teleoperation protocols (WebRTC, RTSP, QUIC) for performance across variable network conditions (WiFi, 4G/5G, satellite).
- Build fleet management systems providing real-time robot status, remote diagnostics, and fleet-wide software deployment tools.
- Develop networking stacks to handle multiplexed video, control commands, telemetry, and sensor data over constrained bandwidth.
- Architect data management systems for control logs, sensor streams, and ML training data (onboard storage, edge upload, cloud sync).
- 4+ years building real-time networked systems in production environments (streaming, gaming, teleconferencing).
- Deep expertise with video encoding/decoding and streaming protocols (WebRTC, H.264/H.265, low-latency RTSP).
- Strong systems programming skills in C++, Rust, or Go for performance-critical components.
- Experience designing distributed systems with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, QoS, NAT traversal).
- Experience debugging complex issues across network layers, timing constraints, and distributed state.
- Bonus:
Background with ROS, robotics middleware, or edge compute optimization (NVIDIA Jetson).
- Our team develops on physical robots in person—expect hands-on hardware debugging.
- Need to be located or willing to relocate to San Francisco, CA.
- Occasional travel to customer sites for network testing and deployment support.
Come join us in building a new global economy, where anyone can do manual work remotely and with robo-scale. Together, we can make goods and resources more affordable and available than they’ve ever been, for everyone on Earth.
