About Collective :
Collective is on a mission to redefine the way businesses-of-one work. Our technology and team of trusted advisors help members achieve financial independence by taking care of everything from business incorporation to accounting, bookkeeping, tax services, and access to a thriving community, all in one integrated platform. We believe in empowering self-employed people to enjoy the same tax savings that big companies get, so they can focus on their passion, not paperwork.
Featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Yahoo, Bloomberg, Financial Times, Tech Crunch, and more. We are backed by General Catalyst, Sound Ventures (Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary), QED Investors, Google’s Gradient Ventures, Expa, and other investors who have financed iconic companies like You Tube, Substack, Twitch, Box, Hims, Instacart, and Lyft.
About the role :
We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to join our Growth & Activation team. In this role, you’ll be a key contributor in designing and building both our member-facing products and internal systems. Your work will span critical areas such as the growth funnel, couponing, sales and marketing enablement tools, and member activation flows.
Our team is small and moves quickly. We operate with a high degree of autonomy and expect strong ownership from every engineer. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful projects that directly shape our growth funnel and member onboarding experience. You’ll help design and build systems that accelerate member activation, improve conversion, and ensure a seamless journey from first touch to long-term engagement.
Our tech stack is primarily Python / Django on the backend and React on the frontend.
What you'll do :
• Build end-to-end product features in close partnership with product and design teams.
• Write high-quality, reliable code that’s easy to maintain and scale.
• Collaborate with the team to make key architectural decisions that drive scalability.
• Lead by example, foster a culture of egoless learning, and mentor other engineers.
• Approach problems with a strong product mindset—balancing technical decisions with member impact.
• Take extreme ownership across the full lifecycle: design, execution, launch, and post-production support.
• Drive initiatives that grow our member base to the next level of scale.
• Enhance customer activation flows to ensure a smooth onboarding experience.
• Help members reach their “aha” moment faster through seamless, thoughtful product experiences.
• Work across different parts of the system to create coherent, end-to-end user experiences.
What you'll bring :
• 4+ years of professional working experience in full-stack development with a strong focus on backend systems, and the flexibility to dive into frontend or other areas as needed to move the product forward.
• Proficiency in Python and Postgre
SQL, with solid familiarity in AWS technologies, React, and Next.js.
• Curiosity to explore new technologies, with the ability to thoughtfully leverage AI to enhance product experiences while understanding its limitations.
• A strong sense of urgency and ownership in driving projects from design through execution and support.
• Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders across diverse functions.
What we offer :
• Hybrid Work Model :
Based in San Francisco with a balance of in-office and remote flexibility
• Fresh Lunch :
Provided on in-office days
• Commuter Support : $150 monthly reimbursement for transit expenses
• Health & Wellness : $200 quarterly reimbursement to support your well-being
• Time Off :
Flexible PTO plus 14 company holidays
• Comprehensive Coverage : 100% medical, dental, and vision for employees; 75% coverage for dependents
• Parental Leave : 16 weeks fully paid
• Retirement & Ownership : 401k plan plus an equity package
• Team Connection :
Quarterly virtual events and an annual in-person summit
• Compensation Range : $190,000 to $214,000
We provide salary ranges for each role to give you a transparent view of potential compensation. Final offers are determined based on the skills, experience, and qualifications, as demonstrated throughout the interview process.
