Backend Engineer

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and data engineering solutions, including databases, data warehouses, and streaming systems operating on large‑scale datasets.
• Implement services that interact with Kafka, write to databases, handle monitoring tasks, and integrate with healthcare system APIs.
• Manage advanced deployment strategies such as canary and blue‑green deployments, as well as feature flag systems.
• Collaborate closely with product, infrastructure, and ML engineers to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
• Contribute to the overall technical strategy and architecture of our platform.

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go).
• Extensive experience with databases (Postgres), data warehousing, and stream processing technologies, including message brokers like Kafka.
• Knowledge of data engineering best practices and ETL processes.
• Experience in developing and integrating with RESTful APIs and websockets.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms (preferably AWS) and containerization technologies.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools and practices.

• Experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7v2) and integrations.
• Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and health‑care data security requirements.
• Previous work in a startup environment or scaling early‑stage products.

San Francisco strongly preferred (hybrid with Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in office).
