Anticipated Hiring Range

$5,355.00 - $6,274.00 per month ($64,260.00-$75,288.00 annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Carpenter performs the full range of skilled journey-level carpentry and related work. Incumbents build, remodel, maintain, and repair a variety of structures and facilities, working from blueprints, specifications, drawings, and instructions. Work includes constructing, installing, and repairing woodwork, drywall, ceiling and floor tiles, roofing, cabinets, counters, shelves, partitions, doors, windows, and modular furniture. Carpenters also may instruct and provide lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants.

Position Information
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs structural and finish components of campus facilities to provide an operationally sound and safe facility using a variety of power and hand tools, equipment, and materials. Activities include demolition of walls, floor systems, ceilings; dust protection; repairing/laying floor tile; building walls; hanging sheetrock, doors, door jambs, floors, and ceilings; constructing cabinets, casework, and related projects.
  • Alters and constructs structural components of campus facilities using power and hand tools, equipment, and materials to ensure operational safety and compliance.
  • Reviews and interprets plans, sketches, and instructions to support safe and effective facility construction and maintenance.
  • Keeps records and maintains reports documenting estimates and actual costs for time and materials; analyzes costs using paper, pencil, calculator, or software.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge:

Work requires thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in both rough
and finished carpentry; various types and grades of lumber; hand and power carpentry tools; and applicable state safety codes and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and California State Building Codes.
