Overview
Biostatistician / Research Data Analyst role at UCSF – Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, ZSFG. The position provides statistical support for ongoing clinical research projects, statistical methodology work, and data analysis from multi-center randomized controlled trials. The work involves collaboration with Dr. Patrick Phillips and the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis Biostatistics Core.
Responsibilities- Draft sections for trial protocols pertaining to statistics; draft the statistical analysis plan; contribute to SOPs.
- Provide statistical support for data capture forms and database specifications; respond to statistical queries; attend team and project meetings.
- Write code for data analysis; perform interim analyses for Data Safety and Monitoring Boards (DSMBs); provide regular reports to funders and stakeholders; perform final analyses at trial completion; work closely with the PI.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across UCSF and collaborating institutions; may include international studies and travel.
- Undertake statistical methodological work to address TB-related clinical trials and guidance.
- Participate in training and career development through biostatistics webinars.
- Master’s degree in Biostatistics (or related subject) or PhD in Biostatistics (or related subject), or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics/Biostatistics with substantial relevant experience in clinical trials.
- At least 1 year of practical work experience in clinical trials or related work.
- Human Subjects research training or ability to obtain in the first year of employment.
- Thorough knowledge of research function; thorough skills in statistical analysis and methodology; thorough understanding of statistical aspects of randomized clinical trials.
- Skills to communicate complex information clearly in writing and verbally; ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team; attention to detail.
- Knowledge of statistical programs including R or Stata (R strongly preferred).
- Contributions to peer-reviewed publications and/or grant applications; ability to take on responsibility for day-to-day statistical aspects of a project.
- PhD in Biostatistics (or related subject).
- Experience with pharmaceutical industry or regulated clinical research; familiarity with standards for clinical trials (ICH GCP, FDA/EMA, CONSORT, SPIRIT).
- Research skills to evaluate alternatives and develop recommendations; knowledge of tuberculosis terminology.
- Experience with reproducible reporting tools such as Quarto and Markdown.
The UCSF Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at ZSFG;
Dr. Phillips leads the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis Biostatistics Core. Joint appointments across UCSF departments; focus on designing and optimizing tuberculosis clinical trials.
Salary range: $90,700 – $193,500 annually. Final offer components subject to UC policy. Placement within the range depends on experience and internal equity. Benefits information available at UCSF compensation and benefits.
