Position description Junior or Assistant Specialist - Schjerven LabWe are seeking a self‑motivated team‑member for a Junior or Assistant Specialist position to join our team. The responsibilities of the position include providing support to the lab in regard to various general laboratory tasks and performing research on pre‑defined projects. We therefore seek a person who is genuinely interested in research, with strong collaborative skills and a teamwork attitude, attention to detail and reliable record‑keeping skills, and that also has the ability to work independently and meet project goals and timelines with minimal supervision within defined tasks.
Our lab works on transcriptional regulation in the development and disease of the immune system, and we use both mouse models and human cells to study hematopoietic development and malignancies, including autoimmunity and blood cancers. The lab utilizes a broad spectrum of molecular and cellular biology methods to answer our research questions. We use multiple mouse models, flow cytometry, CRISPR‑derived technology for functional studies, next‑generation high‑throughput sequencing for "omics" analysis and various other approaches and methods based on the needs of the research projects.
The successful applicant will support and actively take part in ongoing research projects, and will have the opportunity to learn from the excellent and active academic research environment at UCSF as a whole. The candidate will be expected to assist with managing day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including ordering, mouse colony maintenance, laboratory organization, maintenance and inspection. We are seeking at least a 1‑year commitment, but a 2‑year timeline is preferred.
This is an in‑person position at the UCSF Parnassus campus. The position is well suited for candidates who are looking for additional experience in a biomedical research laboratory before pursuing graduate school. The Schjerven lab and the UCSF Parnassus community as a whole provide multiple opportunities to enhance academic skills such as scientific presentation and discussion, that will help prepare the candidate for graduate school.
