Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) positions are part of a collaborative team consisting of attending physicians, fellows, and a team of advanced practice providers (NPs and PAs). The APP team is highly respected and is the go‑to team for the attendings. We actively participate in the education of fellows and visiting residents.

Responsibilities
  • Receive sign‑out from the overnight team.
  • Pre‑round patients, develop a plan of care, present patients on rounds, write a daily note, and implement the plan agreed upon during rounds.
  • Respond to any issues raised by nurses during the course of the day.
  • Credentialed to perform intubation, central line placement, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion/ removal, PD drain placement, and pacing wire removal.
  • For NPs: function under the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Process Protocol approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee, provide routine care and management of patients with acute and chronic complaints, and collaborate with supervising physicians.
  • For PAs: function under the Physician Assistant Role Description approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee, collaborate with supervising physicians, and perform tasks within scope.
  • Abide by all Joint Commission requirements and service standards.
  • Consult or refer cases beyond competency to a collaborating physician.
  • Perform or request diagnostic studies, administer and prescribe medications, and order laboratory and therapeutic specimens.
  • Obtain informed consent, arrange admissions and discharges, enroll patients in IRB‑approved studies, and assist in the operating room as a RN First Assistant when trained.
  • Recognize and consider age‑specific patient needs, communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Initiate life‑saving procedures and facilitate coordination of inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient teaching.
  • Supervised by the supervising/sponsoring physician or designated attendings; supervision includes direct on‑site, electronic, or phone oversight, chart audits, and OPPE.
  • Receive an annual performance evaluation as part of OPPE.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree or higher (PA) or Master’s/Doctoral in Nursing (NP) from accredited institutions.
  • Graduate of an accredited PA program (regulatory body: ARCBPA) or an accredited NP program (NLNAC or CCNE).
  • Licensure: PA licensure in California, NP licensure in California, and RN license in California.
  • Certifications:

    NCCPA (PA) or ABNS (NP), Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association, DEA license for Schedule II‑V controlled substances (for prescribing to outpatients), and board certification as required by service.
  • New graduate NPs have six months to obtain national board certification.

Additional Information Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role, including education, experience, skills, location, and internal equity. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $87.55 – $109.44
