Essential

Duties

Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings.

The essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides routine preventative and continuity care to adult and/or pediatric patients; this may include complete history and physical examinations.
  • Orders diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, E.K.G.’s, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests.
  • Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty.
  • Provides urgent care to acutely ill patients.
  • Acute care planning for patients in an inpatient setting.
  • Assesses and diagnosis, develops treatment plans, and furnishes medications.
  • Counsels and educates patients, and collaborates with healthcare team.
  • Consults with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions.
  • Documents medical records, and adheres to patient privacy.
  • Participates in staff meetings and conferences regarding patient care, as well as quality improvement/control activities.

The 2328 Nurse Practitioner (All Specialties) may perform other duties as assigned/required.

  • EDUCATION: Possession of a Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited college or university;
  • LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing;
  • LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing;
  • LICENSE: Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing;
  • CERTIFICATION: Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following recognized national certifying body or organization:
    • American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
    • American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
    • Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
    • National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the Women’s Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties
    • American Association of Critical Care Nurses
