Position Title:

Youth Advocate

Type:
Full-Time (40 hours/week), Non-Exempt

Reports To:

Youth Services Manager

Location:

In-person at LYRIC (San Francisco, CA)

About LYRIC

Since 1988, LYRIC (Lavender Youth Recreation & Information Center) has been a home base for LGBTQQ+ youth in San Francisco. Each year, we support nearly 2,000 young people through programs rooted in love, equity, and youth leadership.

Our mission is simple and powerful: to build community and inspire social change through education enhancement, career training, health promotion, and leadership development. With a $4M+ budget and a dedicated staff of 20+, LYRIC is a place where young people—especially trans, nonbinary, BIPOC, disabled, undocumented, and system-impacted youth—can lead, heal, and thrive.

What’s This Role All About?

We’re looking for a Youth Advocate to join our Youth Services Team and support LGBTQQ+ youth who access LYRIC’s school-based and community-based programs.

Youth Advocates play a critical role in program planning, implementation, and evaluation while offering direct services, case management, youth leadership development, and community-building opportunities.

You’ll guide young people through skill-building activities, facilitate support groups, develop curriculum, and support youth in navigating systems—from healthcare to schools to public benefits—using a short-term, goal-focused model.

This is a full-time, in-person role. Program staff are onsite five days a week. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

What You’ll Do Direct Support & Case Management
  • Provide youth-centered, culturally grounded case management for LGBTQQ+ young people.
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and individualized service planning using a strength-based and social justice–centered approach.
  • Maintain an active caseload and support youth in achieving short-term goals.
  • Ensure smooth transitions from LYRIC services to community resources and supports.
  • Document all contacts, services, and collateral in accordance with confidentiality standards.
Youth Development & Program Facilitation
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate program activities rooted in research-based youth development frameworks.
  • Facilitate community support groups, leadership programs, and skill-building workshops.
  • Create and deliver curriculum using popular education, thematic learning, and project-based approaches.
  • Supervise and mentor youth facilitators and youth leaders.
  • Provide crisis intervention and conflict de-escalation as needed.
Outreach & Community Partnerships
  • Conduct outreach to high-need communities, including QTBIPOC youth, sex workers, undocumented youth, disabled youth, and youth with health needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, community-based organizations, city partners, and youth-serving agencies.
  • Coordinate and staff community events, youth-led activities, and LYRIC-wide gatherings.
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Maintain accurate, timely records across multiple data systems.
  • Collaborate closely with LYRIC staff and your supervisor to ensure holistic and coordinated care.
  • Participate in staff meetings, organizational retreats, and team-building activities.
Additional Duties
  • Support organization-wide events and special projects.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Show up for youth and community with heart, integrity, and vision.
Who You Are
  • A seasoned youth development professional with at least 2 years of experience in case management, program coordination, or direct youth services.
  • Skilled in group facilitation, curriculum development, crisis intervention, and restorative or harm reduction practices.
  • Knowledge of health, HIV/STIs, mental health, and urgent matters for high needs youth.
  • Deeply knowledgeable about issues impacting LGBTQQ+ youth, including those who are QTBIPOC, undocumented, disabled, system-involved, engaged in sex work, or living with health needs.
  • Familiar with San Francisco and Bay Area youth resources, especially those centered on LGBTQQ+ communities and youth of color.
  • Comfortable working in a multiracial, multicultural, multi-gendered, intergenerational environment.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong data tracking and documentation…
