General

Job Description

A Professional team player that is responsible for oversight of Foremen and supervision and management of all aspects of assigned projects, from mobilization through punch list and demobilization, including safety, customer relations and cost control.

  • Manage up to five (5) Foremen up to five (5) projects totaling up to $15 Million.
  • General Superintendent may also manage a Heavy Highway project over $15 Million.

Vice President of Field Operations.

Results Accountable to Achieve
  • Jobsite safety.
  • Leadership and supervision of Foremen and/or Leadmen.
  • Pre-planning, including HCSS HJ pre-production planner, for each schedule activity to ensure positive job cost variance.
  • Correct personnel and equipment scheduled for the project.
  • Safely executing the daily work plan.
  • Quality of each day’s work completed on the job.
  • All job crews meet the daily labor and equipment production goals.
  • Identify extra work and follow extra work processes to signed extra work ticket.
  • Provide right tools for job.
Primary Responsibilities
Safety
  • Lead by example to support safety program to ensure GBI’s goal of zero lost time injuries and property damage and claims.
  • Perform daily jobsite safety inspections.
  • Present beginning and end of shift “Toolbox Safety Huddles” (All crew to sign safety talk sheets)
  • Incident Reports-Completed and submitted to safety manager within 24 hours of any incident.
  • Attend safety meetings / BBQs.
  • Maintain and keep OSHA and company required safety literature.
  • Ensure Underground Service Alert (USA) tickets are current and accurate, including layout for markings in the field.
People
  • Manages Leadman and crew(s).
  • Mentor and train GBI Field Crews.
  • Lead by example and earn respect from crew and customer.
  • Recommend hiring, promotion, discipline and termination.
  • Document disciplinary actions or employees and subcontractors.
  • Encourage and support life-long learning in self and others.
Customer
  • Encourage repeat business and develop relationships with field contacts (Owner’s
  • Keep truck clean and promote company image.
  • Represent GBI in a positive and professional manner.
Management
  • Understand and know method of payment for each activity, budget, contract, plans, specifications and soils report.
  • Support the Project Engineer (PE), Project Manager (PM), Superintendent and/or Area manager.
  • Manage measurement of completed / installed activity quantities daily for timecard and pay reporting. Coordinate with PE to timely summarize and agree with Owner’s Representative on billing quantities.
  • Actively participate in project In-House Meeting after thoroughly reading and familiarizing with Job Binder (Electronic or Paper) to include plans, specifications, original bid takeoff, Owner Contract Scope and Pricing, Estimating Risk Register, purchase orders, subcontracts & DBE requirements.
  • Maintain daily reports.
  • Manage one or more jobs in an area of operation.
  • Plan and order crew (labor & equipment) from dispatch for daily activities.
  • Quantify job needs and order materials from suppliers.
  • Communicate needs to Superintendent, PEs and PMs.
  • Plan and know daily production costs both in the proposed pre activity planner and the actual post activity cost analysis. Elevate to Superintendent and Management Team any negative budget activities to develop correction plan. Level 1 Foreman manage costs for a single trade. Level 2 & 3 Foremen manage costs for full project.
  • Complete accurate daily timecards with zero discrepancies for timely submission to the PE, including all material and signed daily extra work tags. Teaches timecard best practices to lower level Supervisors to ensure timely and accurate…
