Position: PARALEGAL, CORRECTIONAL LAW SECTION

Overview

Under the direction of a Supervising Deputy Attorney General, the paralegal will perform a wide variety of duties that include reviewing legal documents in new cases and assisting attorneys in obtaining evidentiary documents from client agency Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; contacting client agencies for factual information; interviewing witnesses; on occasion going to a prison to review records; performing routine legal research and drafting basic court pleadings and declarations;

coordinating pretrial discovery requests; implementing automated litigation support systems; preparing documents for the opening and closing of files for internal administrative purposes and for notifying the client agency. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for providing litigation support to attorneys before and during trial by using software such as Relativity, Concordance, Case Map, Trial Director and Trial Pad.

An ability to travel is required.

Knowledge of federal and state court procedures, records, and organization; legal research and writing skills; good oral communication skills; ability to create good rapport with court, departmental staff, and public; strong organizational skills; ability and willingness to work under time and workload pressures; initiative and creativity in designing new programs and methods of organization; knowledge of or willingness to learn computer skills and advanced technology in the area of legal workload management.
