We are currently only taking students enrolled at Cal State Fullerton.

Opportunity Details

The interpreter internship program is currently being offered to college-level students enrolled in a legal interpretation program who are preparing for certification as a Court Interpreter.

Eligible students will have completed a minimum of 6 hours training in professional standards of court interpreters and a minimum of 48 hours of skill-based language lab work in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, with preference given to those having also completed sight translation and advanced judiciary interpreting courses. Additional preference will be given to those students who are working on their post‑graduate studies in interpreting and translation.

The interns will act under the direct control and supervision of the court through Court Reporter and Interpreter Services (CRIS) management. The court will provide student interns with appropriate training and orientation.

Minimum Qualifications

There are varied qualifications in coursework depending on your school's program. We will review and verify all qualifying applications for coursework.

What Now?
  • Submit a completed and detailed application.
  • Be currently enrolled in coursework for interpretation.
  • Be prepared to submit proof of enrollment.
  • Be sure to type your email address and contact telephone number correctly.
Then What?
  • You will receive notices via email after submission.
  • If accepted, you will be asked for documentation on course completion.
  • You will be required to complete a background check that includes fingerprinting.
  • You will receive an orientation on court and internship policies and procedures.
  • You will be expected to provide 45 hours of your time.
  • You will be scheduled at half‑day intervals (3.5 hours) at least once a week.
  • Internship is expected to be completed within 6 months.
  • If you are not accepted this round, you may re‑submit after 3 months.

Guidelines and Provision

If accepted into the Orange County Superior Court Intern/Volunteer Program, I understand that I will not be reimbursed for any unauthorized mileage or out‑of‑pocket expenses. As an intern/volunteer, I am not an employee of the Court; I understand that I am not covered by the Court’s Memorandum of Understanding. I understand that State law requires that I must possess valid automobile/liability insurance and agree to have such coverage if I am involved in using my own vehicle for Court business.

It is also my understanding that a criminal record check is conducted on all interns/volunteers, and the results of such check are used for the sole purpose of evaluating the suitability to access Court files, confidential information.
