Product Designer, Digital Media / Production
We’re hiring an industrial designer to own the end-to-end product design of a complex system: a humanoid robot and the human-facing experience around it. Furthermore you’ll define the foundation of our industrial design philosophy and establish a distinct, recognizable design language for the company.
This is a high-ownership role with a short execution cycle. You’ll be expected to move fast, make strong calls, and simply hardcore.
Location & Working Setup:
You must be willing to relocate to San Francisco by March 30 and work in-person from a shared live/work environment. We call it a hacker house. It’s a focused, high-output environment built around shipping. We can help with visas if you are from the UK or EU.
What you'll do:
- Own the industrial design of our humanoid system end-to-end (robot + how humans interact with it).
- Define and document our industrial design principles, aesthetics, and brand language from scratch.
- Design and iterate toward a complete, coherent product design in under 3 months.
- Create high-quality concepts and translate them into practical designs that respect mechanical and electrical constraints.
- Collaborate tightly with engineering to ensure designs are buildable, robust, and aligned with the technology.
- Support prototyping: rapid iteration, mockups, fit/finish direction, materials, and form exploration.
- Deliver clear design artifacts: sketches, CAD/models, CMF direction, renders, and specifications that can be executed.
What we're looking for:
- Strong taste and the ability to build a design language that feels intentional, distinct, and durable.
- Evidence you can design high-tech, constrained products (robotics, hardware, consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices, etc.).
- Comfort designing within real constraints: actuators, sensors, thermals, serviceability, safety, manufacturing realities.
- Fast iteration and strong decision-making.
- Clear communication and willingness to work extremely close to engineering & product roles.
Requirements:
- Portfolio required (must show relevant hardware/system work and your process).
- Experience designing high-tech products (professional or equivalent caliber).
If you don’t have traditional experience, your portfolio still needs to make it obvious you’re exceptional.
Commitment:
This role requires full focus. You may not take freelance work or outside design work while employed with us.
